A Comprehensive Guide to Jobsite Banners

While the sites may not be construction zones forever, while they are being worked on it creates a great option for the companies working on the new build to get their name out there.

You’ve probably driven past these sites as well and have seen the temporary fences filled with banners showing off the names of a lot of the different companies that have their hands in the project. From concrete companies to HVAC companies, having their name on those fences increases their brand awareness. However, not all banners are created equally, and that is what we are going to discuss.

We will go over the different materials used for jobsite fence banners as well as the best sizing options and design tips. After this you should have a great understanding of how to make the most out of your construction site banners.

Best Fence Banner Materials

There are a lot of difference banner materials, all of which have their best uses, though most of the time the best banner material to chose depends on the look and longevity you are after. All of our banner options come standard with hems and grommets so the only choice you need to focus on is which material best fits your needs and image. We will list the material options based on their popularity starting with the overall choice for most companies:

Mesh Banner

Mesh banner material is by far the most popular option of fence banner for the simple fact that it allows wind to pass through it lessening the strain on the banner making it last much longer than other options. The drawback of this banner type is that since it is perforated it isn’t as opaque as other material and doesn’t display small text. However, those are rarely problems for jobsite banners since they are typically seen for a decent distance away and often while driving. The small text shouldn’t be a problem for reasons we will go over in the design section.

Heavy Duty Banner

Heavy duty material is the next best thing for longevity, made to hold up and withstand the elements while offering the full opaque option for printing. The biggest downside to this option is that it catches all of the wind since there isn’t a way for it to pass through, which puts extra strain on the banner itself as well as the fence that is holding it. The work around for this would be to add wind slits which does break up the design a bit.

Promo Banner

Promo banner material is typically done for short term applications like events or promotions, but it can be used for any application. If you are planning to change out your design of information a more cost effective banner is probably a better choice since you won’t be committing to a long term banner. This material acts the same as heavy duty needing wind slits to reduce strain.

Anti-Curl Smooth

Smooth banner material is almost always for either indoor banners or banners that are going to be viewed closely, neither of those are usually the case for jobsite banners. Smooth banners, like the name states, have a smooth surface giving the cleanest and most professtional look, if that is the image your brand is going for it might be worth it to use these banners. They are solid like heavy duty and promo banners but their durability is somewhere between the two, they aren’t designed to hold up as well as heady duty material but they are thicker and more durable than promo. This banner material is much more of a stylistic choice for this specific application.

Size

The next thing to think about is the size you want your banner to be. While it might not be true for everything, when it comes to signage bigger is almost always better. Bigger means more noticeable, easier to see/read, and more impactful to every passerby.

There are “standard” banner sizes, but your banner can be whatever size you want. If you are working with a seven-foot fence, go ahead with a six-foot banner. Use as much space as you can because every extra foot is extra visibility for your brand!

Design Tips

The biggest piece of knowledge that i can give you is focus on the most important part of your message and stick to that. A lot of people want to cram all of their information and services on a banner which ends up making everything much hard to read and retain. Each sign should be designed for the space its going and the information you’re wanting to push.

If you banner is going to be seen by people driving 45 mph, then you need to make sure your text is large and easy to understand. This is where we go with the hierarchy of information, the most important thing should be big and bold, the next most important thing should be smaller and the least important things should either be the smallest or completely omitted.

This will typically look like: your name or logo as big as possible at the top, a smaller list of services underneath, then your contact info and licensing numbers at the bottom. This might be difference for each company but you should keep in mind what is most important for you and what might not be needed at the time, remember these banners are typically more about brand awareness and lead generation.
